International Overdose Awareness Day

August 31st was International Overdose Awareness Day. And, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that matters more than people realize.
Addiction. It touches families, coworkers, neighbors, people we love, and the community. Support is not about having the perfect words, or the perfect plan. It can just mean showing up. Listening, without judgment. Letting someone know they are not alone. That kind of presence can alone save a life.
I keep naloxone in my car, not because I expect the worst. Rather, I understand the world we live in today. And, I would rather be ready than wish I had been.
Mostly what I hope from others is compassion, patience, and understanding.
